We have organised activities for Day 3 of the Symposium (21 June 2023) for participants who are not occupied at the workshops.
Labrador Nature Reserve & Marina Keppel Bay (AM)
This half-day trip includes a guided nature walk through the Berlayer Creek Boardwalk at Labrador Nature Reserve and around the floating pontoons at Marine Keppel Bay. The Berlayer Creek Boardwalk will take you to one of the few remaining mangrove forests in highly urbanised mainland Singapore, as well as mudflats and a rocky shore. You will also be welcomed by diverse communities of corals and other marine organisms flourishing on manmade structures at Marine Keppel Bay. Note that this trip will not involve walking into mangroves or getting into the water.

The SBWR, located in northwestern Singapore, is Singapore’s first ASEAN Heritage Park. The Reserve covers 202 ha of mangroves, mudflats, ponds and forests, which serve as critical habitats for local fauna and flora including horseshoe crabs and saltwater crocodiles as well as migratory birds. The half-day trip will allow you to explore the SBWR freely and appreciate the importance of conserving wetland habitats.
St John's Island National Marine Laboratory (Full Day)
SJINML is Singapore’s only offshore marine research facility, only a 20-min boat ride away from the mainland. This whole-day activity involves a guided tour of the research facility and Sisters’ Islands Marine Park Gallery, as well as a walk around St John’s Island and other innerconnected islands to explore the islands’ history and coastal habitats.

Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum
This iconic green building in the NUS campus is home to the Zoological Reference Collection, with over 560,000 catalogued lots and over a million specimens from throughout the region.
